Gone are the days when the Dover under 15s suffered heavy defeats from clubs such as Ashford and Canterbury and today was no exception. The Dover boys looked strong in the scrum and line out and but for some silly mistakes which gave away too many penalties, may have come away the victors.
Ashford took the lead early in the first half but failed to convert. 20 minutes in, after a prolonged visit around Ashford 22, Dover equalised with a well worked try, expertly converted by Captain George Moore.
Both teams were a logger heads with much of the time spent in the Ashford half, but Dover were only able to create 3 points from a penalty. Dover held the visitors at 10-5 into the second half but Ashford had a couple of strong attacks which ended in tries. Towards the end of the match the score was still close at 10-15.
Just before the final whistle Ashford were awarded a suspect try, but the end result was a win to the away team at 10-22.
Both teams enjoyed the match. Dover were particularly pleased with their progress since the 53 –3 loss they suffered earlier in the season against the same team.
Next weekend Dover are away to Thanet. Any boys who like to join the
squad will be warmly welcomed at Crabble at 6.30pm on Wednesday evenings.
