Last season Dover lost by a large margin to Medway – this season it was a different story. The match was extremely even and the score line could have looked very different had a try by Tom Clark not been disallowed in the dying minutes of the game.
Medway were a great team to play against and came out strongly against a disorganised Dover. After 10 minutes Dover gained their composure and started to ruck over and put moves together which gave them the confidence they needed.
Medway scored a penalty early in the first half through a series of unfortunate mistakes made by Dover. Some heroic defending by the away team kept Medway from scoring a try 10 minutes before half time, but Flanker Sam Webb came off temporarily with a knee injury and Medway scored a try just before the whistle went.
The second half seemed like a different match as Dover consistently drove Medway back and it seemed time and time again that they were going to score. 10 minutes before the final whistle Sam Stevens scored a penalty and just 1 minute before the end the disallowed try occurred.
Dover were not down hearted though as they had improved in so many areas, particularly in the scrum and lineouts.
Man of the match went to Sam Stevens
Tackle of the Match to Alex Morris.
