Dover
Sharks under 15 started the season with a solid performance against
Whitstable this weekend. The weeks of training with new coaching
team of James Cattermole and Mo Kamara paid off as the boys took an
early lead through a penalty try created by Lawrence Cox.
Although
it was not converted it gave Dover the confidence to use their new
learnt skills against a much heavier Whitstable side.
The tackling was ferocious but Dover still led at half time by the 5 point margin. Consistent pressure from Captain George Moore and number 8 Josh Mills caused some exciting moments but the next try did not come along. In the second half the fresh legs of Dover’s 4 replacements brought some more bounce into the game but was not enough to stop Whitstable scoring an equaliser followed in quick succession by another try in the last quarter of the match.
At 12-5 it seemed to be all over but a swift run down the wing by fullback Matt Sadler put Dover in a good position to score a second try at the hands of hooker Dillon Woods. The conversion was not meant to be though and Dover had to settle for a close loss of just 2 points.
Man of the match went to George Moore and tackle of the match went to Dan Jagger on his debut with Dover Sharks.
Next week Dover meet Canterbury at Crabble.
