The Under 13s Sharks made their way into uncharted territory with
a visit to the very friendly club of Rye who were excellent hosts on
what was otherwise a very wet and windswept day. Undeterred by the
weather our intrepid sharks put on an excellent display of their skills
despite having not been able to train or play for over a week due to
waterlogged Crabble being out of bounds. The Sharks were determined
and organised from the start playing directly into the horizontal rain
and ice-cold wind. The Sharks were quick to break the defences of Rye
and scored an early try Shaun Fields being the scorer. As with all
the tries during this game – due to the gale force winds there
was little to no hope of getting any converted!
Rye valiantly fought back to try and gain possession of the ball again
but thanks to the tenacity of the young Sharks who were on fighting
form, the ball soon became Dover’s once again. Another try – this
time by Luke Rigden who played fantastically through out the match.
Due to the weather there was a quick turnaround rather than half time
and the Sharks now with the wind behind them were able to make quick
ground. The ball in the main was predominantly in the Rye half for
the remainder of the match although Rye were at times able to run the
ball swiftly into the Dover half only to lose it again. Luke Rigden
gained the Sharks two further tries for him to get his hatrick and
a further try was gained by Joe Bisset. The Sharks and Rye players
were a credit to their club for continuing to play on despite the atrocious
conditions – well done to both teams. We look forward to hosting
a return match with Rye to be played at Crabble in the New Year.
