Dover Under 11 entered the East Kent Festival hoping they might be
able to win the competition, but unfortunately a slow start and unlucky
referring decisions worked against the Dover team. None the less by
the end of the competition Dover were playing excellent rugby and in
their final game beat Canterbury 35 - 0.
Dover drew there first two games against Ashford and Sittingbourne
0 - 0. Dover should have won these games but some of the players reacted
a little less determined than is required to win tight games.
The third game Dover started to play better rugby and beat Folkestone
3 - 0. and then in the final game gave Canterbury a lesson in open
running rugby beating the home side 35 - 0.
In the scrum Cien O' Hanlion, Harry Yarnell and Callum Smth played
good rugby both in attack and in defense . At scrum half Ben Norris
playing out of position showed good determination and linked well.
In the backs at fly half Ryan Matthews had a good game making skillful
breaks and caught many high kicks under pressure, Harry Sayers was
determined and highly effective in defense and attack and Dan Westbrook
was excellent in defense and made every 50/50 ball his own.
The squad was Ben Sturman, Thomas Castle, Harry Yarnell, Scott Page,
Cien O'Hanlon, Callum Smith, Ben Hart, Ben Norris, Ryan Matthews, Peter
Merit, Harry Sayers, Alex Moore, Dan Westbrook, Dan Eades, Tom Duncan,
Toby Cottam, Kieran Wrigley, Alex Moore
