Dover
3rd XV (50) v (0) Deal/Bettes 3rd XV
Played on 15-12-2007
Dover started from the off with what was set to bet their best win
so far this season. Having beaten Deal once before in the East Kent
Cup, the young development squad realised that they would have to
pile on the pressure, which they duly did when veteran Bowditch scored
the opening try, which Stevenson converted putting Dover up by 7.
Tries seemed to come in from every angle possible, with some great
running from Stevenson to King who produced the extra pace to touch
the try down, which Stevenson again slotted nicely. Some great work
from the kicking abilities of Mcpherson resulting in a forwards worked
try from a driving maul from a 5m line-out, which was touched down
by Cooper, and was only one or 2 tries unconverted. Captain Price
again made a display of textbook rugby with use of the handoff and
monstrous power to score another try. This was followed by a retort
from the younger players on the team, with some great handling and
running abilities, which ended with a great sprint from King, who
delivered clean ball to Spud who scored yet another try.
Deal were starting to splinter now, with a player being sin-binned
from their team, and Mcpherson’s harassment of the Deal scrummie
was straining the ball delivery.
Increased pressure from Dover saw Burr charge down a kick, which
ended up with Stevenson scoring yet another 7 points with the conversion.
It seemed Burr, not wanting to be outdone, cut some brilliant angles
to scythe up the Deal defense and put a score on the board for himself.
The final nail came when, from the restart, the powerful young Russel
ran through to score the last try of the game that remained unconverted.
At this point of 50-nil, Deal conceded the game with 10 minutes to
go, and Dover 3rd’s remain an unbeaten team so far this season.
Substitutions were Warner for Meredith D, Plews for Golden, and Bowditch
for Cattermole.
