Dover 2nd XV (22) v (0) Thanet 2nd XV
Played 26/01/2008
Dover continued their quest for the East Kent 1 league title with
comfortable 22-0 win over Thanet at fortress Crabble.
From the first kick of the game Dover took control without ever
really getting out of second gear. The first score came after
5 minutes. Strong
running by the Dover forwards sucked in the defence leaving plenty
of space out on the right. The backs took advantage by shipping
the ball
out wide where Matt Burr like all good open side flankers was supporting
on the last mans shoulder for a simple finish. Marsh slotted a difficult
conversion to take the score to 7-0.
For the next 25 minutes Dover combined with a strong Thanet defence
managed to squander a host of chances so when a penalty was awarded
40 metres
out captain Chambers pointed towards the posts. Up stepped Marsh
to show his return to kicking form and slotted the 3 points with
15 metres
to
spare.
With a slender 10-0 halftime lead Dover needed to score early to
put the game out of reach and it was provided By Gill. From a maul
Dover
rumbled their opponents back 20 metres allowing Gill to touch down
for the try his play over the last few weeks has merited. Charge
having a
good all round game at scrum half converted.
Scoring for the day was rounded off by Holdsworth who upon receiving
the ball 30 metres out rounded two defenders before barrelling though
a third for an unconverted try.
Dover's next game is in two weeks time against an improving Ashford.
