Faversham 2nd XV (3) - (51) Dover 2nd XV
Played 15/01/2008
Dover returned from the festive break in fine form to produce an
eight try romp over an out of sorts Faversham.
Against the wind and hill in the first half Dover started slowly
and found themselves 3 points down after a string of unnecessary
infringements lead to a kickable chance. On another day these penalties
could prove more costly. With 15 minutes gone and in perfect running
conditions Dover's backs started to show what they are capable of.
After good driving forward play Marsh spun out a long miss pass to
James who rounded his opposite number with ease to score in the corner.
This was soon followed by a move involving 5 backs which ended with
Dean going over in the same corner. Denning was next to cross the
white wash showing a turn of pace after collecting the ball from
the aggressive running Landman. Marsh converted to take Dover in
to the break with a 17 - 3 lead.
Dover forwards now decided it was time to get in on the act. Tackles
were being broken all round the park notably by Gill, Cherrington & Kimble.
Good support play and off-loading lead to tries for May and on their
come backs from injury Lucas & Le Finn. However the game finished
with James and Denning both repeating their first half party pieces.
A Charge penalty and 3 conversions rounded off the scoring.
Next week Dover travel to Folkestone where a continuation of this
fine form will be required.
