Dover 1st XV (46) v (8) Beckenham 1st XV
Played 28th March 2009

Dover’s dominance in this game confirmed their position as 5th in London 2 South by posting a comprehensive victory against Beckenham. There was an abundance of skill and scintillating rugby on view and the home side should be pleased with this result, particularly following their acute hangover from last weekend.

Beccehamiens (0) v (41) Dover 1st XV
Dover progressed to the next round of the Kent Cup with a win against London 4 side Beccehamiens. The score line would seem to suggest that this was a more than comfortable victory, however for the fist 60 minutes of the game that was far from the case. Read the full match report.

Tunbridge Wells (22) v (22) Dover 1st XV
Played 21st February 2009

After the recent run of good home form Dover were hopeful of clinching two points, however they were rarely at their best in this error riddled game and the points were finally shared between the two sides. Dover started well with the slope in their favour and the pitch and conditions were perfect for fast running rugby.

Thanet Wanderers 1st XV (13) v (20) Dover 1st XV
Played 20th December 2008

Dover travelled to Thanet with the knowledge that the hosts would be hoping to overcome their recent run of drubbings in this local derby. They certainly responded in a positive manner and Dover left their best to the final 10 minutes of the game, which was disappointing in this nail-biting finish. However Dover will be pleased with the two points and the double over Thanet, which they have waited a good number of years for. Jack Tomlinson Dover’s new signing from Canterbury made his debut at hooker and he will be a superb addition to the squad joining his pal Mick O’Donnell, both having previously played at Deal Lions and Canterbury.

The EDF Senior Vase has seen us over come local opponents, and sides from Norfolk and Essex, taking us to the quarter finals where we were drawn against Cullompton RFC (Nr.Exeter) Devon. Cullompton who also sit 2nd in their league, and boast an impressive record of not having lost at home in 2 seasons were this weekends formidable fixture. The team and much of the support travelled the 250 miles to Devon on the Friday, to ensure all were as fresh as possible.
Our hosts were superb, and should be proud of the fine facilities they have built up for themselves, the quality of the team and the true rugby hospitality afforded us. Cullompton are clearly working in a similar fashion to Dover, their side was young, strong and fast – which mirrors Dover and ensured an action packed game. The game was played at great pace and was a wonderful spectacle of which both towns should be exceptionally proud, and the result could have gone either way. Home advantage proved the edge and we wish Cullompton every success as they proceed in the competition, we will watch their progress with a tinge of envy as we focus our efforts on the league.
My thanks to the players, support staff, and the travelling support from Dover, who did the town proud and gave me such an enjoyable day (apart from the result of course).
