Under the glare of the Crabble ground floodlights, these local rivals should be congratulated on putting on a display of hard physical rugby which was played in the best sporting traditions of this wonderful game. The Sharks scored first with a penalty but Deal soon hit back with a well worked try. A further two penalty’s extended the visitors lead to provide a good half time cushion. With the slope in their favour the Dover lads raised their game in the second half and on several occasions almost forced a try, in addition, to a couple of missed of penalty's . Against the run of play Deal, through slick handling in their backs, managed to score a second try to seal the game. Arguably the scoreline flattered the visitors with the packs evenly matched and although the Sharks commitment couldn’t be faulted, Deal’s backs certainly had the edge which, in the end, made the difference. At the final whistle the 400 or so supporters from both clubs and the town showed their appreciation to the teams for providing a fitting curtain raiser under the new lights.
