Dover Under 16’s first win of the season came this weekend in the East
Kent Cup against Whitstable.
Dover started off strongly with two tries, both scored by prop Brad Kirkham
and the boys felt confident that they were on to a winner.
As so often happens, their joyous mood was short lived, as Whitstable got
the bit between their teeth and fought back to take the lead of 10 -14 at half
time.
A few choice words from coaches Mo Kamara and James Cattermole at half time renewed the team’s determination and they picked up in the second half. Strong pressure from the forwards allowed Jordan Adams to score Dover’s third and an impressive drive and last minute spin created Dover’ fourth try, this time from Team Captain Sam Webb.
A conversion from Jack Ayling with 15 minutes to go gave the final score line
of 22 – 14 and Dover go through to the next round.
A good performance was put in by all and the players brought up from the U15’s
once again played an important part.
Man of the Match was awarded to two players. Well done to Brad Kirkham and
Dan Jagger.
Dover Under 16s train at Crabble on Wednesday evenings at 6.30pm. New players are welcome AND it matters not if you have not played rugby before.
