Dover's enthusiastic squad enjoyed an overdue win aided by the support of seven Folkestone RFC players. Due to injuries an school commitments Dover RFC fielded ten participants.
The early exchanges showed Maidstone to be fired up and hard to contain. After indecision in the Dover backs Stones siezed loose ball and touched down near the posts, quickly followed by another try in the corner after powerful forward play. However this first quarter of the match later proved to be the best period for Stones.
Dover regrouped well under their inspired stand-in captain, Tom Johnstone, who soon scored a try. Folkestone's Swain added another (converted) score after a strong run to level at half time 12-12.
The second half saw Dover's heavier pack assert superiority in scrum and lineout denying Stones useful possession; their back line rarely breaking the Dover defensive formation. Dover's Gibbs played well but received a ten minute sin-bin. Further tries from Snare and Johnstone (plus conversion) gave the visitors a deserved lead, cut to 17-22 with a Stones try in the final minute.
Man of the match Johnstone led by example well supported by the tireless pack and hard tackling backs.
