On Sunday, Dover U14s hosted Folkestone at Crabble in the East Kent Cup.
This was the Sharks’ first full-side competitive fixture of the season. The
first quarter was hotly contested with both sides making forays into each other’s
22. The Stones on the back of recent wins against Canterbury and Whitstable
looked slightly sharper, their wing making an excellent run to register the
first points of the match with a try out wide. The home side conceded a further
two tries before the half time whistle.
Dover came out the stronger side at the start of the second period and after
some encouraging set piece play and fluid passing from the backs set up a
try for Luke Rigden. To their credit, the Stones came back strongly exploiting
the home side’s defences to produce a further three tries and a conversion.
The final score, a win for the Stones by 32 points to 5.
Whilst the scoreline looks a little unflattering, the home side put in a
good effort finishing the match on a positive note with a number of learning
points
to be taken to the next training session.
