Dover ladies travelled to Aylesford on Sunday to take on their 2nd team in National champioship 3. First blood was drawn by Dover when good off-loading by the pack enabled Lou Yambo to barrell over in the corner.
Dover looked to be in control and spent most of the half in opposition
territory, but failed to produce clean ball for the backs and
so a battle of the packs ensued. Dover's defence was excellent
throughout
Aylsford only managed to break the gain line and score with
a bit of
help from the referee.
Newcomer Daisy Plewes showed great pace chasing up a chip over
the defence from Julie Coles, but narrowly missed scoring in
the corner.
Aylesford scored again with a quick ball out wide, leaving Dover
trailing 10 - 5.
Eventually, Dover began feeding the ball out to the backs and
a great individual try by Naomi Reene saw the score leveled.
With
minutes
left to play, Dover collected the kick off and barged their way
down field.
A grubber kick from Julie Coles was chased by Mandy Smith and
a win looked possible, but the ball drifted into touch and time
ran
out,
the game ending in a draw.
This was the ladies 1st league game and several new players showed
great promise for the games ahead, notably Charlotte Stanley,
Louise Tester and Lucy Morlock.
The next ladies fixture is Hastings and Bexhill on 26th October
at Crabble.
Players: Stanley, Yambo, Lyon, Collins, Frackleton, Harper,
Walker, Tester, Smith, Coles, Ghost, Rowland, Reene, Parry,
Plewes, Morlock.
