Deal&Bettes 4th XV (13) v (24) Dover
Played on 25th January 2009

Dover fourths maintained their winning streak in an evenly contested game at the Drill field. Dover made a fine start with their forwards winning quick ball and  good passing allowed Mike Samson enough time and space to weave his way to the try line. DealBettes then pushed Dover back into their own twenty two for an extended period of time and their efforts were rewarded with two fine tries. Good forward play and slick handling allowed both tries to be scored near the left corner flag. Dover were clearly under pressure and they were grateful to Chris Walker who won a couple of hooks against the head to relieve the pressure. Deal Bettes were then punished for failing to clear their own lines. The ball was won and recycled a number of times by the Dover forwards who then released the ball to the backs to allow Bowman to crash over from close range. Dover undeservedly at 12 V10 as the ref blew his whistle for half time.
In the second half Dover finally woke up and started to match the work rate of their opponents. Samson, Yarnell and Gaughran made some fine defensive tackles before excellent handling from the Dover three quarters put winger Grant Dyer in at the corner. Deal responded with a penalty in front of the posts following a Dover offside and so Dovers lead was cut to six points.  The games intensity did not drop which was a credit to both sides and the result was always in doubt until a quick tap penalty resulted in speedster Richard Walker sprinting away from the half way line to score beneath the posts.
