Dover fourth team served up some tasty tries in a scrumptious second half performance against a valiant Lions team. In a match played in hot sunny conditions at Crabble, the superior fitness and fine support play allowed the home team to run in seven tries in a commanding second half display.
The first half proved to a balanced affair, with Lions winning the
forward contest but Dover winning enough breakdown ball to threaten
with their speedy backs. The first try came following a good interplay
by Bowman and Samson who evaded desperate tackles to score under
the posts. Deal responded with a pick and drive try following a
series
of scrums contested on the Dover line and so the score was level
at the interval.
In the second half, Dover used the slope and sun to their advantage
to press the Lions team into constant defence. Veteran forwards,Wilikns,
Yarnell and McAdam started to make some surging runs through tied
Lions tackling. Once through the initial defence, Dover passing
was generally
slick and this allowed tries for all the threequarters. Tyler (x2),
Samson, Speakman, Haste and Graham all crossed the line following
some fine passing and incisive lines of running. Wilkins scored
added another
try following an excellent pack effort. Overall a fine team performance
with youngsters Jared, Graham and wood making their senior debuts.
