Dover 3rd XV (31) v (29) Whitstable 3rd XV
Played 31st January 2009

Top of the table Whitstable visited Dover, and from the off their heavy, experienced pack set the scene for the first half. Starving the home side of procession through the forwards they rumbled in 4 close range tries (2 of which were converted). Dover fought valiantly to contain them to just these scores as the half ended with Dover 24  – 0 down.

The second half and the breeze behind them, Dover started to gain better pocession. The forwards gaining parity with the Whitstable pack, allowing the Dover backs to show their capabilities. Whitstable ran in a further try early in the second half, but by now half backs Golden and Munroe were bossing the back line superbly. 5 tries and 3 conversions as Baber, Russell and from full back Price carved through the Whitstable defence, and literally ran the ball from everywhere.

This was a great effort from a Dover side who have been playing a league higher than planned, but took on undisputed league leaders and triumphed 31 – 29 and completed the hat-trick for Dover.
