Dover 2nd XV (47) v (8) Tunbridge Wells 2nd XV
Played 27th September 2008

The Indian summer continues for Dover 2's - in more ways than one - as they cruised past Tunbridge Wells at Crabble. The dry weather and firm ground proved the catalyst for Dover's wingers. The prolific Dale Mercer scored two more league tries and the enigmatic James Morton also scored two, showing Dover's endeavour to score out wide.

The forwards provided the solid foundation for this victory with their strong defence and frequent turn overs. They also dominated the line out and took scrums against the head. It was the excellent rucking play, however, and the ensuing quick ball that provided players try-scoring opportunities. Dan Gill's epic presence, supported by the quick-silver Haywood and ferocious Landman, put steel into the pack's play. Tries by Gill, Sluman and Matcham emphasized their superiority.

Sam Coughlan had another superb game at full back, with Justin Marx provided punch and guile in the centre. In the hazy September heat Dover stayed strong right to the end of the match, out running their opponents. As team mentor Jimmy Chambers always tells the players: "Its all about the first 80 minutes."

Dover 2's have a tough run ahead, with a lot of away games in the coming weeks against strong sides. However, with key players still to return to the squad and confidence flowing through the side, anything is achievable for this team.

Team: Coughlan, Morton, Burr, Marx, Mercer, Marsh (Plews), Denning, Cattermole, Gaughran, Gill, Landman, Sluman, Chambers, Matcham (Cooper), Haywood.
