Dover IV XV (48) v (5) Thanet Wanderers V XV

Played 17/11/2007

Dover fourths maintained their winning streak with a comfortable win against an impotent Thanet side. Once again, the Dover side made a dominant start to the game and camped themselves on the Thanet try line. However a series of poor choices and dropped passes left Captain Colin Claw flabbergasted with the score remaining blank for twenty minutes. Finally, Fly half Bowman opened the scoring with a dropped goal and this proved to be the catalyst for success, as five tries soon followed. Gareth Speakman and Dan Prescott scored from out wide whilst the gnarled veterans Mills and Whyte forced a try following excellent forward play. Young Tony Watson scored the best try of the first half, gathering a bouncing ball to weave past two defenders and score under the posts. Dan Prescott added a second as the Thanet side tired
from the collective onslaught of the Dover side.
In the second half, Thanet gained a fortunate score with a kick ahead and a wicked bouncing ball landing in the wingers’ hands leaving the wrong footed Dover defence stranded. Undeterred by this setback, Dover led by the driving play of Yarnell, Tanner, Harte and Roberts responded with four more tries. Slick passing along the backline allowed fullback Prescott to add two more tries whilst winger Munns sped in for another score. Paddy McAdam also crashed over following a bullocking run from Adam Morrison. In conclusion, this was a fine performance in a well-refereed game with only woeful conversion kicking preventing the winning margin going beyond fifty points.
