After last weeks disappointment Dover were looking to impose themselves
from the off in what can be a tricky away fixture. With the big front
row of Gill, Cains & Bowditch applying all sorts of pressure at
the scrums Ash conceded an early penalty which Marsh duly converted
to get the ball rolling. This was quickly followed by a try in the
corner when Matcham got on the end of a flowing passing movement to
walk over the opposition winger and score in the corner.
With confidence up Dover scored 2 more tries in quick succession, the
first from Holdsworth in his first game back after a couple of seasons
and the second by Marsh following his own charge down. As often happens
Dover then started to over elaborate and many an opportunity was lost
with handling errors and wrong decisions. After a lapse of concentration
at the back of a scrum Ash went over for their only score of the game.
With 20 minutes left on the clock Dover returned to the basic rugby
that served them well earlier and further scores followed from another
Marsh penalty and 2 more tries. The first from a charging Cattermole
and a second for Matcham from short range. Overall Dover should be
happy with their performance but must start looking to play for the
whole 80 minutes. A final mention goes to Marsh who once again had
a 100% kicking record to notch up a personal tally of 21 points for
the day.
