An early start on Sunday appeared to agree with Dover U17s as they
travelled to Tonbridge Juddians for their last league pool match. From
the kickoff, Dover appeared well up for the game and attacked the Juddians
with vigour. The forwards continued to work well as a unit and good
decisive rucking ensured the ball was presented cleanly to the scrum
half to allow the threes to run at Tonbridge with confidence, and winger
Lewis Wraight to show his pace and ability on the ball. The first half
finished 12-5 to Dover with the only downside being that Sean McAdam
had to leave the field after 20 minutes with a knee injury.
Another score within 15 minutes of the restart continued the momentum
for Dover but a complacent fifteen minute spell half way through saw
Dover put themselves under pressure when they allowed Tonbridge over
the try line, although deemed held up, the resulting 5m scrummage saw
their big Number 8 crash over for five points. The Tonbridge backs
had by now found a certain amount of rhythm and looked dangerous at
times but solid defensive work pushed them backwards and their failure
to clear the ball allowed Dover to gain the upper hand. Tries from
Lewis Stevenson, Steve Golden, David Jordan, Matt Burr, Sam Grayson
and 4 conversions from Stevenson saw Dover worthy 33-10 winners.
