With the last four meetings of these two sides ending with close results, this match turned out to be no different. This was Dover’s first win of the season which had been far to long in coming, but the whole team had to be congratulated on a determined performance in what were far from ideal conditions.

From the start it was clear that Dover were the dominant side, with
play taking part in the Aylesford half for large trances of the game.
That Dover only managed one score by Dale Mercer half way into the
second half shows the dogged defence by Aylesford. With Steve Cunningham
and Rob Parks both playing out of position in the backs Dover’s
attacks were somewhat stilted but they did nothing to disgrace the
side.
Ben Atkin was a constant presence around the park upsetting any chance
Aylesford had of attacking.
Perhaps the memory to savour from the match will be the ball going
from hand to hand whilst metres were being made, only for Tom Dight
to be bundled into touch just short of the line. If Dover is to forward
from this match then they must remember to continue to play as a team,
and that the mental hurdle of winning a game has now been crossed and
the rest should be plain sailing.
The “Bambie” award for Man of the Match was given to Josh “Happy” Robinson.
The Dover team was: - Atkin, Birrell, Britnell, Cunningham, Dight,
Hardie, Hindle, Hook, Hooker, Law, Mackay, McMenamin, Mercer, T Morris,
Parks, Premnath, Robinson, Schacht, Webb and Williams.
