Is this the start of something better is the question that must be
answered.
The whole performance of the team was better, maybe not perfect yet
but that can always be worked on. The three Dover scores came from
forward power with the three props all claiming one a piece. In games
where Folkestone have normally been dominant the fact that the first
score took 24 minutes to arrive showed how even the game was. Folkestone
then managed two quick scores before Dover were able to respond with
Tyler Morris picking up a close quarters and going over. Going into
half time Dover were down 5-10 and the prospect of playing up the slope
the team responded well and Theo McMenamin was rewarded for his storming
runs when he touched down by the base of the post, the conversion by
Tom Birrell and Dover were suddenly 12-10 up. Dover then relaxed and
let Folkestone back in the game with two more scores but to Dover’s
credit they picked up their pride and fought up the slope. With a line
out 10 metres out from the Folkestone line it was a clean catch by
Ben Hindle, a drive by all 8 forwards and the ball to the back for
Josh Williams to dot over. Folkestone then came back with a late penalty
to make the final score 17-27.
The “Bambie” award for Man of the Match was given to Tyler
Morris.
The Dover team was: - Birrell, Blake, Britnell, Day, Dight, Hardie,
Hindle, Hook, Hooker, Law, McMenamin, Morris, Premnath, Schacht, Stewkesbury,
Walker, Webb and Williams.
