Dover U15's narrowly lost out in a very competitive game played at
Deal on Sunday. The Sharks forwards had a storming game with prop Nick
Keen and back row forwards Haydn Annakie and Ben Rix leading the charge.
Deal tackled as if their lives depended on it but were unable to stop
winger Dan Norris who was put into space by good forward pressure and
handling from the backs just inside the Deal half. He then outpaced
the Deal defence to put the Sharks 5-0 up. Deal struck back quickly
when forward pressure and poor Sharks tackling resulted in a try under
the posts which was converted.
The best move of the match then occured when Ben Rix broke down the
blind side and fed Norris coming off his wing on the angle. Norris
was tackled 5 metres short of the Deal line but offloaded to Rix who
crashed through the scrambling Deal defenders. However the referee
was unsighted and the try was not given. From then on it was nip and
tuck with Dover regaining the lead through a penalty by fly half Greg
Phillips but Deal had the final say with a drop goal in the last 10
minutes.
