Dover U15's won their first match of the new year in a hard fought
contest at Crabble on Sunday. Although Dover started strongly they
were unable to turn pressure into points due to the team ethos coming
a firm second to individualism resulting in three clear try scoring
opportunities going begging. It was Sheppey who opened the scoring
with a try under the posts which they converted to go 7 points clear.
Dover started to string some phases together with debutant wingers
Jamie Goodbun and man of the match Dan Norris having excellent games
in both defence and attack. The Sharks got their first points when
hooker Lewis Bradley showed strength and pace to make a decisive break
before putting Norris in for an unconverted try.
Despite playing against the elements in the second half Dover started
to dominate and after being held up twice on the Sheppey line the Sharks
eventually took the lead with a fine solo effort from Fly Half Greg
Phillips who threaded his way through a determined Sheppey defence
to score a try under the posts which he converted. Sharks centre James
Beresford then put daylight between the sides with another try converted
by Phillips.
Sheppey pressed hard in the final 10 minutes but Dover stuck to their
task with the forwards digging deep to deny the visitors another score.
