Great Success! (Borat Style) for Dover’s jubilant Under 14s who today simply played ‘a blinder’ and received the result to match the effort, enthusiasm and aggression put in by each and every player.
Thanet Wanderer’s fielded a strong, experienced side but Dover showed that they had been taking notice in training and worked on the basics, time and time again, driving through on rucks, tackling low and working together as a team. What a difference from previous matches.
One try was scored in each half. The first by Liam Tanner after the forwards pushed and pushed within metres of Thanet’s try line. The ball popped out of the ruck and Liam swiftly deposited it where it needed to go, to the delight of the watching Mums and Dads.
Consistent strong breaks were made covering metres of ground each time by Josh Mills, George Moore (Captain) and Sam Webb and in the second half, flanker Dylan Woods capitalised on this with the second try.
It was a day for the forwards for tries as Jordan Adams thought he had popped the third but the ref blew for ‘squeeze ball’ (through the legs – not allowed at this age) just before he got the ball. Never mind. A fantastic win by a team who have put in so much work over the past year – at last – it’s happened!
Man of the match was in fact the whole team – so here they are in no particular order :- Josh Mills, George Moore, Liam Millroy, Sam Webb, Alex Morris, Bradley Clements, Jordan Adams, Dylan Woods, Tom Clark, James Limmer, Christopher Griffin, Sam Stevens, Sam McManamin, Conan Osborne, Jem Payne, Connor Handley, Jamie Dray, Liam Tanner.
In true rugby style, the drinking competition (half a shandy – empty glass on head) was again won by Dover, this time by Bradley Clements.
Dover play Sittingbourne at home in two weeks time. Training is at 6pm on Thursday evenings and 10am Sundays on non-match days at Crabble. New players who were age 13 at the beginning of September are welcome to join the squad. Just turn up.
