Dover U13s V Thanet U13s

Played Sunday 26th November 2006

Sunday morning saw very good conditions for rugby, very
bright, dry and breezy. The ground was soft as a result of the previous
heavy rainfall although the pitches were not too muddy. Kick off was at
11:00hrs and Dover U 13's faced up to a determined Thanet Wanderers side
who like Dover have sustained a difficult early season without luck in any
of their games. Dover's side consisted of 4 x new players to the team who
had to be fielded as 3 x regular players were not available. Unfortunately
this showed in the game where players standing were being played in
unfamiliar positions. These problems aside the Dover forwards put on very
good performance and pushed the Thanet scrum everytime giving the Dover
backs good opportunities to break forward. The Dover side looked to be a
completely different team on sunday having experienced some torrid early
losses and they put in some very good displays of team work, this is a
result of their midweek training sessions at Crabble. Although in the first
half the posession was fairly equal Dover made a couple of basic mistakes
which cost them seeing Thanet gain an early lead. The Dover lads regrouped
every time but failed to exploit excellent play by full back Josh Davies
whose boot was in good form sending the ball into Thanets half. The second
half saw Thanet gain momentum and increase their lead but Dover showed
vigour right to the end and it was unfortunate that the backs never broke
out. This Dover side has a good future now that team work is being
displayed and providing they train hard and keep disaplined there should be
a better performance at the next game which is away to Gravesend next week.
