The intrepid Under 12s team led by their Coach Bob Thomson, took an
early coach to The Stoop on Saturday 6th Jan for an action packed day
of rugby, rain and mud!
The Under 12s were taking part in the The Richmond & Twickenham
Times Cup - the premier mini rugby competition hosted by the NEC Harlequins
at all of their home games.
The Under 12s team faced a very competitive morning of mini tournament
rugby against some formidable opposition - they played against Haslemere,
Chilterns, Wimbledon and Thurrock. Conditions at the training ground
next to The Stoop were atrocious from the start with heavy persistent
rain creating a huge mud bath within which the Under 12s did their
best to play. Despite losing all of their games and only collecting
one try in the last game, the boys represented Dover RFC magnificently
and despite the dissappointing game they did their best on the day,
against some very strong and well drilled opposition. It was during
the final game of the day that the boys seemed to become more alive
and engaged in the game and this game against Thurrock was much more
balanced with the boys playing well and only conceding the two tries.
Scores for the matches were:
Dover v Haslemere 0 - 4
Dover v Chilterns 0 - 4
Dover v Wimbleden 0 - 2
Dover v Thurrock 1 - 2
The afternoon saw the boys hurriedly showered, still a little muddy
around the edges and sat in The Stoop Stadium for the NEC Harlequins
game against Bath - a much better result from the Quins was observed
(9 - 3) and no doubt the Under 12s picked up a few pointers to improve
their game in future as well as some lasting memories.

The Under 12s playing were: Conor Allen, Luke Allen, Joe Bissett, Hal
Bryan, Jordan Caldwell, Thomas Clarke, Marcus Coulson, Robert Duffy,
Shaun Fields, Isaac Macintyre - Geoghegan, Sam Gibbs, Sam Harrison,
Oliver Latham, James Moynan, Thomas Saunders, Oliver Thompson and Joe
Tonkin.
