On Sunday the Under 12s travelled to “The Ditch” on the
Isle of Sheppey, the home of Sheppey RFC as part of a busy season’s
fixture schedule. Additionally, an under-strength team from Deal and
Bettshanger made the journey to the island.
Dover’s first match against Sheppey got off to a very positive
start, the forwards dominating the islander’s pack in all phases
of play leading to an inevitable try by the corner flag. The backs
also looked to make the best of their chances resulting in two further
scores by the young Sharks who went into half-time 15 points to nil
up. With their backs to the wall Sheppey came out fired up for the
second period and deservedly through sheer determination forced some
handling errors by Dover, scoring two tries in quick succession. The
Sharks rallied to make the final try of the game, resulting in a 20
points to 10 win.
The second match against a Deal and Betts side bolstered by Sheppey players saw a very evenly matched first period with the teams going into half-time without scoring. In the second period it was the opposition that made the most of their chances scoring two break-away tries which were unanswered by the Sharks who lost the match 10 points to nil.
