The short journey on Sunday for the Dover Sharks Under 12s to Folkestone RFC hailed a very positive start to the season.
The first game against the home side Folkestone was hotly contested, the Sharks going ahead with a well worked try. However, Folkestone quickly rallied scoring a flying break-away try in the Dover corner. Honours even, the full-time scores levelled at 5 points all.
The second match against Kent opponents Whitstable was very physical,
the Sharks conceding an early try from the opponents line-out. Not
to be out done, after consistent pressure from both the forwards and
backs the young Sharks punched a way through the Whitstable defence
to score and level the match at 5 points each. In the second half the
Sharks stepped up a gear pegging back the opponents on their own try
line with some formidable forwards pressure for what seemed like most
of the half. To their credit, Whitstable withheld their defensive line
and the score again ended at 5 points all.
Although the Sharks came away without a win from the two matches, they played with good tactical awareness, looked focused and most importantly made good use of all attacking opportunities.
