On the final Sunday of the mini rugby season, Dover under 10’s
travelled to Canterbury to fulfil their fixture in a mini festival
where they were to meet the hosts Canterbury, Sittingbourne and Thanet.
Dover were, as always, extremely well supported, and were able to field
two full teams, throughout the festival, which provided a platform
for all those who had attended training throughout the season, an opportunity
to shine on what was a glorious day for running rugby.
Dover started well, with a fixture against Canterbury, which they won,
35-5. The scoring was opened by Caen O’HANLON, who played strongly
throughout the day, ably supported by his team mates Harry SAYERS,
Alex MOORE, and Dan WESTBROOK. Another delighted try scorer in this
match was winger Alex BYRNE.
Team 2 started the day with a fixture against a strong SITTINGBOURNE
team which they won 10-5, thanks to tries from the days top try scorer
Dan EADES.
Ben STURMAN was a strong presence in the pack for team two assisted
by Kalem READ, with Harry YARNELL playing well out of position in the
centre, and the half backs of Ryan MATTHEWS and Tom DUNCAN providing
the quick ball which was required on such a fine day.
Team one, then provided a feast of rugby, beating THANET 25-5, before
a quick turnaround meant that they played again straight after, managing
a credible draw against SITTINGBOUNRE, 10-10.
It was then Team 2 who took to the field, with lacklustre opening half
meaning that they had to work hard for a 15-15 draw with hosts Canterbury.
The final game of the day saw Team 2 take on Thanet. This was a much
better performance and a real high note on which to end the season.
Team 2 triumphed 20-5, with Ryan MATHEWS finishing with the last try
of the day.
Dover showed that they have real strength in depth, finishing the day
with two unbeaten teams.
A special mention goes to Tom CASTLE, who was the most delighted scorer
of the day, with his first ever competitive try.
