The 4ths went to Deal/Betts 4 points behind in the second leg of their East Kent Cup defence. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be. The sharks lacked the bulk of their normal front row and were no match for a much larger and experienced Deal/Betts pack. A dubious early try by Deal/Betts didn’t faze the Dover side and good continuous pressure resulted in two penalties being awarded within their opponents 22. But the points were not forthcoming. Deal/Betts didn’t miss their chance to take another 3 points and at the end of the first half the Sharks were 8-0 down.
The second half saw a few changes to the Sharks side and at first it seemed that they could come back from this deficit but Dover just couldn’t get over the try line even with good strong runs from the fresh legs of scrum half Gaughran. Prop Tanner had a go, as did Tommy’ 2 Tries’ with the later judged receiving a forward pass by a ‘less than effective’ referee. Two more tries by the home side finished the game and it was a very quiet changing room after the 18-0 defeat.
