Folkestone Veterans (7) v Dover Veterans (8)
Played on 4th November, 2006

On bright sunny afternoon in Folkestone, both Dover and Folkestone veterans fought out a keenly contested game with Dover clinging on for a deserved victory. Playing with the sun, slope and breeze in the first half the Dover forwards cleaned up in the line outs with Kevin Mills regularly hitting Jason Wall to ensure plenty of ball for the Dover backs. Following a good catch and drive from a line out, Fly Half Chris Bowman chipped superbly over the Folkestone backs to an on rushing Tommy Dean who caught the ball and galloped over for the first try.

With both teams defending well the game remained tightly balanced and it was just before the half time interval when Dover extended their lead through a penalty kick following a misdemeanor from Folkestones lively flanker.

The second half saw Dover win a territorial battle over the Folkestone team. With the game punctuated with scrums and line outs, Dovers forwards led by Roy Cottam and Jason Tanner prevented the ball being released to the ‘Stones’ fast and hard running centre and it was not until the final five minutes that Dover’s line was breached by a Folkestone drive. The Dover veterans then used all their considerable experience to spoil any further running rugby and so claimed an enjoyable victory.
