On Saturday Dover 2nd team played their last game of the season against a very young Ashford team. With the league already sown up last week, Dover were looking to end the season with a good win and keep their unbeaten run going from Christmas.
The game started well for Dover scoring early with two penalty kicks
and a well worked try finished off by James Blair who showed good
pace and vision to snipe up the blind side of a ruck.
This
saw Dover take
control of the game within the first 10 minutes. Some excellent team
play which combined both forwards and backs led to a great try from
Hewer. Marsh as he has done so often this season was kicking everything
put
in front of him. This took Dover into a 28-0 first half lead.
The second half started in similar style to the first, Dover
was rampant
and looking like scoring with every attack. Howard after being
on for 5 minutes soon contributed to the scoreboard after the Dover
pack had
driven their scrum over the line for Howard to pick up the ball
at
8 and score a well worked try. His second try was scored in the
same fashion, but his third was scored from well within the Dover
half. He picked up from the back of a ruck, broke two tackles and outpaced
their winger to score a great solo effort. Dan James then added
to
the score board. Ashford kicked off which was fielded by Denning
who ran the ball back at the Ashford pack, fixed two defenders
before off
loading to James who stripped the winger and full back for pace
to score from his own 10m line. Marsh converted.
The try of the game came from Captain Price who went through 2 defenders and outpaced 2 others to score a truly excellent try in his last game as second team captain.
The game was called off 15 minutes early due to an Ashford player
sustaining a serious neck injury; we all hope he is ok.
This season has been very successful for the Sharks second XV, especially
since Christmas and has seen them win both the league and plate.
This was due to an excellent squad mentality, hard work and
determination and it puts us in good stead for next season. A massive
thank you
to
all the players from Captain Price and Manager Cairns for all
their hard work through the season.
