The 2006-2007 season was a challenge as the club entered the RFU London SE4 league, the highest level in the clubs history. London SE4 being RFU Level 8 (Premiership being Level 1 of course). If Dover RFC are anything, they are not complacent when it comes to preparation. Sometimes we may achieve our aims slower than we would like but with the dedication of the people in control at key positions, balanced and considered targets we have set ourselves, have in the last 5 seasons been delivered in the majority of cases.
From the implementation of a Development Squad as step one, the playing systems have been adjusted and new targets set each season. With a development system that is still offering great opportunities to the young players of the town, finishing the second half of the season stronger than we could have imagined. The 2nd XV sharks have blended youth and experience this season to win the East Kent Cup and EK1 League title, and above all built a unit that people are happy and honored to play for.
Now following 4 promotions in 5 seasons our 1st XV are already looking ahead to the 2007/2008 season where history has again been made and we enter the uncharted waters of London SE3 and RFU Level 7 rugby. The club is vibrant through the Minis, youth, Seniors and Ladies, with many hours of volunteers toiling for our sport; to bring enjoyment, ideas, organization and structure to the players and supporters of the club they love.
The season has seen its ups and downs, but having stuck to the task it is a delight to be speaking of the continued success, and hopefully we will have prepared well enough to enter London SE3 and give a good account of ourselves and the town.
Richard Catt – Chairman Dover RFC.
